The intention behind these outdoor lessons
The dawn of the century seems like it happened ages ago with changes in our social, economic and personal lives happening at an ever-accelerating pace. Technology in our times has taken over our innate humanness. Math can be made interesting, filled with rhythm, ratios, technology and nature. This lesson will transport students into the magical world of numbers, geometry, map-making and much more, during the fortnight of fieldwork and classroom sessions. The lessons will integrate math, technology, geography and nature's outdoor classroom, to enliven learning and build lifelong relationships with peers and teachers. Lessons will be interspersed with treks, camping, reading/ listening to stories of intrepid surveyors of the 19th century- culminating in the naming of and measuring the height above mean sea level, of Mount Everest. On the penultimate day, a movie connected to this peak will be shown. Teachers, parents and educators who are interested in bringing their 15+-year-old children who have completed grade 9 ( in grade 10 ), are also welcome to join this lesson as observers.
